The Underrated Power of Blending

In the vast universe of AI-driven art, where text-to-image generators like Midjourney reign, one intriguing practice is often overlooked, underrated, and misunderstood – the art of blending images.

This isn't just about merging images; it's about adding a unique touch, a distinct flavor to your digital artwork.
It's a bit like adding your own blend of spices to a recipe.

This practice is more than a mere fusion of visuals, it's a way of infusing your personal style into the artistic outputs, thereby elevating them to a whole new level.

Blending can dramatically alter the vibe, style, and mood of your generated images.
While the text prompt serves to guide the composition, blended images or "spices" can guide the style.

If done correctly, this method can truly elevate your artwork, adding depth and personalization to your creations.

The Underrated Power of Blending

The Discovery Era & The Next Phase

We are currently in a phase of discovery with Midjourney, experimenting, learning its capabilities, and pushing its limitations.
Every exploration helps us understand more about how Midjourney interprets our text prompts and how we can better guide it to generate the images we envision.

As we transition into the next phase, the focus will shift towards cultivating our unique style.

A key to this will be refining our text prompts and blending them with our carefully selected "spices".
This process will enable us to generate a consistent art style that we can truly call our own.

The Real Impact of Spices

In this section, I'll demonstrate how the same text prompt, when paired with different sets of spices (images), can yield remarkably different results.
Each set can significantly influence the mood, vibe, and overall style of the generated image.

- These are my personal set of spices, I generally use these when I envision a specific result or when I believe that the spices will complement the vibe of my text prompt.
- I'm still learning to cook with these spices, but I believe the following results aptly showcase the power of this method.

All images have the same exact 4 text prompts, it is just the images I add/feed that changes the style from the "No Spices"

Prompt 1: "A chef cooking in his kitchen"
Prompt 2: "a close up of a robot"
Prompt 3: "A princess in a forest"
Prompt 2: "A bear dancing in a desert"

Remember, these examples should inspire you to experiment and discover what works best for you and your artistic vision.

The journey to mastering your own blend of spices may be challenging but, rest assured, it's equally rewarding. Let's continue to the next section where we explore creating your own set of spices.

Creating Your Set of Spices

To create your set of spices, you'll need to generate 2 to 4 images that you like that will become your new "set of spices".

I personally stay at 2-3 images but Midjourney allows blending up to 5 images. In my experience a little bit less prevents the output from being overly influenced.

The selection of images, whether they are simple or complex, colorful or black and white, can significantly affect the final output.
So, fine-tuning your selection of images is crucial.

Conclusion

As we continue to explore and experiment with Midjourney, remember that the goal is not just to generate beautiful images but to cultivate a unique style that is distinctively yours.

Don't be afraid to experiment, make mistakes, and learn from them.
After all, art is a journey of self-expression and discovery.

In this exciting era of AI-driven art, we have the tools at our fingertips to create, innovate, and most importantly, to be ourselves. So go ahead, add your unique blend of spices to your art and see the magic unfold.
